Lee County Road 54 (Society Hill Road)

July 26th, 2010 John Little No comments

There’s lots of beautiful scenery in Lee County if you ever have chances to get out and meander around, taking your time to stop and look from time to time. Here’s a few scenes south of Auburn on Lee County Road 54, also known as Society Hill Road. We were looking for Randall Farms, but they’re closed on Sundays. (subscribe to their blog here). There’s a bridge out about 4 miles south of Moore’s Mill Road, so we didn’t make it all the way down to Society Hill, but there’s still some good scenery on those 4 miles. Here’s a few:

Visit to Horseshoe Bend

March 4th, 2010 John Little No comments

A couple weekends ago, we found Josh a new car up in Roanoke, Alabama, and when Josh took off for home, Priscilla and I decided to take some back roads to get back to Auburn. We ended up headed straight toward Horseshoe Bend, and we stopped for the tour. It was a beautiful day, and the best outings sometimes turn out to be unplanned. This was one of them. Here’s a bit of the story of the 1814 Battle of Horseshoe Bend. If you ever go there, the 20 minute video at the Welcome Center is definitely worth watching before you drive or walk around to the various points of interest.

The last 2 pics are of a Honey Farm between Horseshoe Bend and Dadeville.

from The Bottle to Lafayette

January 27th, 2010 John Little No comments

Here’s some scenes I found attractive while driving from The Bottle, just north of Auburn, up 147 and 431 to Lafayette and a little beyond. Read about the history of The Bottle here. If you zoom in on a google map of the area, you can see it’s still labelled as “The Bottle.”

pics from near Little Texas, Alabama

December 23rd, 2009 John Little No comments

One of the things I do now is take pictures of barns. I’m not very good at photography or anything. I just steal my daughters digital Kodak sometimes when I drive around Lee County sight seeing, which sure beats the hell out of being chained to a desk cranking out billable hours. These are from a trip to Little Texas, an area south of Auburn on the way to Tuskegee, near the Tuskegee National Forest.

Kiesel Dog Park in Auburn

November 20th, 2009 John Little No comments

I’m clearing off my 2 year old piece of junk Palm Treo getting ready to get my hands on a Droid (so many features, and I’m loving the freedom of the cloud and freedom from Microsoft).

Here’s some pics from late September (I think?) when fellow RCB’rs Todd and Tonya (together affectionately known as Todya) were here. These are at Kiesel Park‘s dog park. I heard Kiesel Park was donated to the City of Auburn by someone who thought there’s already too much focus on sports in Auburn. So one of the rules at Kiesel is no sports. The dog park is cool and can get very active. If you’re making a special trip to Kiesel with your dog, always bring a gallon of water to dump in the dog bowls while you’re there. Makes it easier for everyone since the closest spigot is a couple hundred yards away.

Beware. There’s alot of chasing, slobbering, panting and humping that goes on at the Kiesel Dog Park.

Our 18th Wedding Anniversary

May 25th, 2009 John Little No comments

Today was our 18th anniversary. I’m not sure how Priscilla has been able to put up with me this long, but I’m sure glad she has. I recently found a bunch of old picture files of photos we scanned on a flatbed scanner a long time ago. Here are some of the pics taken on wedding day and around that time period. We were 21. I hope we have many more anniversaries to come.

Lee County Gathering Old Time Music Festival

April 26th, 2009 John Little No comments

We found out about the Lee County Gathering too late to enjoy most of it, but Priscilla, Julie and I did go over to watch the Contra-Dance at the Loachapoka Community Center.

Then we went over to Fred’s Feed and Seed to sit and sample a few craft beers.

One of the ladies who’d been at the dance brought her bagpipes and played for us.

A very unique and enjoyable experience on a Saturday night when we didn’t have anything else planned.

Pics from 2009 Auburn CityFest

Priscilla and I took the kids (and Daisy!) to the Auburn CityFest on Saturday.

We didn’t decide to go until around 2, so we didn’t get to enjoy it as long as we could’ve.

Still, it was a beautiful day to stroll around, visit the booths and listen to the music.

We saw Auburn Brew Club members Mike M and Rob B, but missed Julie.

We ended up getting together with Julie later to go to a contra-dance in Loachapoaka.
