Very slowly working out the issues following the move of my blog posts from resipsaloquitur.auburnbrewclub.org to here and the resurrection of old posts from johnlittle.com/blog to here. I have to go into each post and edit it, and I’ve only worked my way back through a couple pages worth so far. I think the RSS feed is working now. It utilizes Google’s feedburner service. I’m also trying to decrease the number of “categories” used, making categories more broad, and instead use “tags” for numerous, more detailed descriptors.

I just stumbled across an .sql backup from December 11, 2006, which I think was the last time I backed up the blog. The root of this domain has always been a single page resume (really boring).

The domain just came up for renewal, and I decided to go ahead and keep it. Really, I don’t think I’ll ever let it go. John Little is a common name, and I’ve been contacted numerous times since I first registered it on April 9, 1998, by other John Little’s to see if I’d be interested in selling it. Since I’m no longer using the site as a resume and the domain renewal made me think of it, I figured I’d do something a little more creative with it.

So here I go with another WordPress installation. I’ve been trying to import the old .sql backup, but its not working, so it looks like I’m just going to bite the bullet and recreate the post manually by cut and paste. I see that the first blog post I ever made was on July 31, 2004, and I made about 130 posts between then and that last backup on December 11, 2006. Thankfully, WordPress will let me backdate the entries as I create them manually.

I may also import all my posts (mid-2007 to present) from http://resipsaloquitur.auburnbrewclub.org to this domain, since I’ve managed to screw up the DNS settings for subdomains after switching auburnbrewclub.org to Google Apps.

I know I’m not the most interesting read. I’ve been behind a computer doing dry legal research and writing since the early 90s, and it’s hard to get away from that writing style. Hopefully I’ll have more interesting things to read as time goes on. Mostly, I’m just amusing myself.

And I’ve decided for the first time to keep the Hello world! first post title intact. And for my first image, I’m choosing a picture of Daisy looking through a door window, and Doofus behind her gnawing on a bone. I’m sure Daisy is thinking Hello!, or wondering if there’s anything to eat inside.

Weblogs, or blogs, are basically on-line journals that are used by individual bloggers in different ways. Blogs can be personal or professional, topical or random, updated hourly or once a month or longer…. it is all up to the individual. Blogs have been around for several years, but (according to articles I’ve read) they’ve really exploded in popularity in the last year or so. I’ve been thinking about starting one for a few weeks now, so here it is.

I guess it will just be a place for me to write about what I’ve been up to. Maybe one day my kids will enjoy reading it. Feel free to register and post comments. It’s as easy as chatting via email, which alot of do all the time.
